Still, I have found that IE propertly set up and in company of an antivirus and firewall works just fine. Alongside with this there is some nasty things, like that "Bing" navigation bar forced on everybody and imposible to unistall (another new microsoft update on firefox was this Bing stuff), almost imposible to disable. So if a virus infect the IE it may affect the browsing of files. That is the program that browse the web share functions with the program that browse the folders or files. Now to answer why I preffer IE better than other browsers, it is becouse it is the one I understand the better. The sugestions is use a diferent browser, like firefox or chrome.
